Position Overview

The Electric Superintendent manages the City electric system including distribution wires, transformers, substations, grounds, vehicles, generators, lighting and other electrical systems in the city and directs and oversees the work of department employees and supply inventory and operates light and heavy equipment, if required.

Applicants must have knowledge of modern principles of administration and management of a municipal electric utility and must be skilled in the planning, engineering and designing of electric systems components. Experience in electric utility operation, including considerable supervisory responsibility.

The Electric Superintendent is required to work a 40 hour work week and shall be available for emergencies. Applicant will work outdoors and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions and high voltage equipment and required to work at heights greater than twenty-five (25) feet.

A State of Ohio commercial driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Park and Cemetery Superintendent – Park Recreation and Cemetery Department

The City of Columbiana, Ohio (pop. 6,384) is a small city with a rich historical background. The City is currently conducting significant restoration and beautification of our 73 acre park. The City of Columbiana is searching for a self-motivated, flexible, high-energy individual with superior interpersonal, communication, organizational, and customer service skills to join our team.

Position Overview

The Park Recreation and Cemetery Department manages and maintains the Harvey S. Firestone Park. Facility responsibilities include: managing the aquatic facility (approximately 50% of employee time), overseeing the operation and maintenance of four enclosed pavilions, three small lakes, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, a basketball court, a disc golf course, playgrounds, and all cemetery responsibilities. Additional facilities include a football stadium and several ballfields primarily maintained by the school district. Future development includes: Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Gardens and a dog park. The position is responsible for planning, developing, supervising, coordinating, monitoring, organizing, evaluating, and motivating the Department, as well as doing hands on work in the park, and assisting other City departments, when needed. Currently the department doesn’t offer any programs. However, consideration must be given to the development of future programming opportunities for the residents of the City.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Park Management, or a related field preferred, with a minimum of five (5) years progressive experience in the administration of public parks and recreation.

Experience in capital and operating budget development and management.

Overseeing the planning, design, construction and maintenance of park facilities and open spaces.

Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the school district and community interest groups.

Experience in swimming pool management preferred.

Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.

Additional Qualifications

The ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with the staff and the general public. Knowledgeable in the use of computers and recreation software.

Developing long-range recreational goals for facilities and programs.

Promoting teamwork, information sharing, marketing and public relations.

The chosen candidate will be required to have or to obtain and maintain the following licensures and certifications once hired:

A valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Certified Pool Operator Certification (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operators Certification(AFO)

Lifeguard Instructor Certification

CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Water Safety Certification
