Ohio Department of Transportation and the City of Columbiana Seek Comments on Firestone Park Project

Columbiana – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 11 and the City of Columbiana are seeking comments on the proposed construction of new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant sidewalks and crosswalks in Firestone Park. The project will also include restoration of the existing brick-lined gutters and ADA compliant curb ramps to be added as needed.

No new right-of-way is needed for the project. No wooded habitat suitable for protected bat species will be impacted. No impacts to waters of the U.S. will be involved. The project is planned to take place entirely within Firestone Park. The proposed sidewalk, crosswalk, and brick gutter repair work will require that the following amenities be temporarily closed for less than a week:

  • Swing set and teetertotter located by the Twin Oakes Pavilion West;
  • Concrete walkway at the Twin Oakes Pavilion West;
  • Concrete walkway to the Maple Grove Pavilion; and
  • Handicap parking space near the Maple Grove Pavilion.

Access to the Twin Oakes Pavilion West and Maple Grove Pavilion will be maintained at all times during construction. A new sidewalk will be installed by the Firestone Stadium ticket booth. The ticket booth will remain open at all times. Construction will not interfere with games being held at the stadium. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in August of 2026 and last for approximately 90 days. A flagger may be present during construction to direct park visitors for their safety.

The City of Columbiana and ODOT are seeking comments from the public about the social, environmental, and economic impacts of this proposed action. Environmental impacts include those associated with historical archaeological or architectural resources, ecological resources, hazardous materials, and/or any general concerns regarding the project.

Written comments concerning the project may be mailed to the City of Columbiana, 28 West Friend Street, Columbiana, Ohio 44408; Attention: Lance Willard – (330) 482-2173 option 6, or emailed to [email protected]. All comments must be submitted by November 9, 2025.
